Cheever Construction Company

History

In 1954, Clifford C. Cheever founded Cheever Construction Co., Inc., a union masonry sub-contracting company. The company specialized in stone and brick veneer work as well as concrete masonry buildings and foundations. As the company grew, it came to employ 50 - 80 people as masons, labors and operators.

In September 1973, the company incorporated as CCC Construction Company and continued work as a non-union sub-contracting firm through 1975. From 1975 to 1982, Mr. Cheever scaled down the company to a small General Contracting firm constructing apartment buildings for himself and other private individuals. During this time, the company directly employed less than six people and did an annual volume of work from $1.5 to $2 million per year.

From 1982 through 1985, the company employed a part-time estimator/project manager and began to do small commercial projects and two larger apartment projects.

By 1985, the company had hired a full-time estimator/project manager and became more aggressive in the competitive bid market. A wider variety of projects were undertaken and additional field superintendents were employed to supervise the work. By 1989, CCC Construction Company was involved in construction of schools, office buildings, elderly condominiums and had increased its annual volume of work to $10 million.

CCC Construction Company continued to grow steadily, with an annual volume of work in excess of $20 million. The company gained diversity in the types of projects constructed, including: numerous school projects (from new facilities to additions), churches, office buildings and renovations, commercial warehouses, government facilities, medical-use facilities, multi-family housing complexes, auditoriums, and custom homes.

With Cliff's retirement as President in April 1997, a re-structuring of management promoted Wes Oestreich to President and General Manager with Cliff serving as CEO and retaining ownership of the company. To insure the continuation of the Cheever name in years to come and to bring the company back to its original 'roots', our company name was officially changed to CHEEVER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY. With Cliff's long and successful history in the Lincoln and southeast Nebraska region, we feel very proud to maintain the Cheever name as our identity.
